Sam and Dennis planned a lovely overseas holiday, then someone pointed out that they had in fact planned a honeymoon without the wedding! So, just a couple of weeks before they were due to fly over, they scrambled to put a wedding together over the internet from the other side of the world. Luckily, they chose a location where weddings are something we do very well, and the people here can whip one up in no time at all. I was thrilled to photograph their wedding since this couple was coming from Queensland, where I lived for ten years. We were all excited by the prospect of heading to Golden after the ceremony for a helicopter ride, although with the blizzard conditions the day before, I wasn’t getting my hopes up. Luckily the weather was perfect – cloudy all day with no wind. My fear of flying in small aircraft is more than outweighed by the actual experience of doing it, and the look of awe and wonder on the bride’s face when she sees the mountain peaks really makes you appreciate where you live. With photos at Lake Louise, Emerald Lake, on top of the Purcells and lastly Moraine Lake, it was an amazing day.
